the die is cast... the trip to Dallas is set

President Kennedy was in El Paso in the early part of June 1963. On the 6th he met with Lyndon Johnson and John Connally to discuss the upcoming campaign. Cliff Carter was with him as well as Fred Korth and Homer Thornberry.
Kennedy was not interested in coming back to Texas until sometime the following year. Johnson was determined to have him come back to the state where he had so much power and control. The President got the “Johnson treatment” that the Vice President had used so often when he was running the Senate. Aided by John Connally, the high volume discussion was too much to resist even with Cliff Carter by his side. Kennedy agreed to return in November.
