Truth is treason in the empire of lies.

...you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.  John 8:32

Ellen Rometsch

East German “waitress” – sent home as spy
Ellen Rometsch

Following World War II Ellen's family moved to that part of Poland that became part of East Germany. She joined the Free German Youth and got a job as a stenographer for the Socialist Unity Party.

In 1955 when East German farms were collectivized her family moved to West Germany and she marry Rolf Rometsch who was a sergeant in the German Air Force. In 1961 the Rometsch family moved to Washington DC as he was assigned to the German Logistic Office. They moved into a home in Arlington County VA.

Ellen began working as a “hostess” at Bobby Baker's Quorum Club in the Carol Arms Hotel near the Senate Office Building. Being a former model and very attractive she became friendly with many powerful people, including the President. Since Baker was Lyndon Johnson's right hand man, knowledge of the hanky panky going on was helpful in maintaining control of the Senate. This became a problem for Robert Kennedy as there was talk she was an East German spy.

Senate investigators found “no evidence” that she was a spy. Even so, the administration felt it was best she leave after all the contacts she had and the friends she had made. They couldn't just expel the couple from the country without making a big deal that the press would love to get hold of. Bobby discreetly got word to the German Embassy and the Rometsch's were on their way back to Germany.

Once back in Germany here husband divorced her and she went back to live with her family on their farm. Eventually she remarried Rolf.
