Oswald Impersonators

who were they and what was their purpose
Lee Oswald... or is it?

There have been several Lee Harvey Oswald sightings around Dallas in the weeks leading up to the assassination of the president. Witnesses identified the individual as looking like the man arrested, but more importantly each time a fuss was made and the person made a point to make sure they knew his name.

One day a man looking like Oswald showed up at a shooting range. He began shooting at another customers target. An argument ensued and he tells the guy to be careful about messing with Lee Harvey Oswald.

Another time he showed up at a car dealer telling them he was Lee Harvey Oswald. He also told them he was coming into some money in a few weeks and wanted to take a test drive. His wild driving scared the daylights out of the salesman who was sure to remember him.

There is also the story of another man looking like Oswald arrested on the main floor of the Texas Theater at the same time the man we saw killed on television two days later was being arrested in the balcony. The second man was supposedly taken out of the back door of the theater.

The story of Ralph Yates is probably one more instance of an impersonator coming in contact, perhaps accidentally, with a good hearted driver giving him a ride.

When we heard the story of Wally Weston seeing Jack Ruby throwing Oswald out of the Carousel Club and down the stairs, it is not unreasonable to wonder, was it the real Lee Harvey Oswald, or was one of the look-alikes.

It's thought that Michael Paine and Larry Craford kind of looked like Oswald and they may have been involved in this part of the operation.

THE SECOND OSWALD a Startling Alternative to the Single Assassin Theory of the Warren Commission Report
by Richard H. Popkin

Who killed Kennedy? Many keen minds have their doubts about the findings of the Warren Commission. Could Oswald have fired 3 shots in 5.6 seconds with the inaccurate rifle he had - and hit a moving target? Did he even kill patrolman Tippit (the bullets in the body were smaller than the barrel of his revolver)? Was the brown paper bag made only to attract attention? Was Bullet No. 399 a plant? Suppose there was a Second Oswald - a man very similar physically and an expert marksman? Such a man was seen both before and at the time of the murder. Was there a rifleman on the knoll as well as at the Book Depository window? If so this was one of the greatest - and most successful conspiracies of modern times... The Second Oswald has been called "the first plausible and significant argumentation on the Kennedy assassination." It takes into account the books by Edward J. Epstein, Mark Lane and Harold Weisberg. Too much was attempted too quickly. Professor Popkin believes that Lee Harvey Oswald may have been innocent and no more than a decoy in a plot to kill the President. His job may have been to divert suspicion and be arrested. A startling alternative to the 'Single Assassin' theory.

Oswald and the CIA: The Documented Truth About the Unknown Relationship Between the U.S. Government and the Alleged Killer of JFK
by John Newman

From the acclaimed author of JFK and Vietnam comes a book that uncovers the government's role in the Kennedy assassination more clearly than any previous inquiry. What was the extent of the CIA's involvement with Lee Harvey Oswald? Why was Oswald's file tampered with before the assassination of John F. Kennedy? And why did significant documents from that file mysteriously disappear? Oswald and the CIA answers these questions, not with theories, but with information from the primary sources themselves—ex-agents, officials, and secret records. To look at the Oswald file is to look at the most sensitive CIA operation of the Cold War. The story is as alarming as it is tragic; the lies and manipulations it reveals led directly to Kennedy's murder. Oswald and the CIA is a gripping journey to the darkest corners of the CIA.
