Malcolm Perry

ER doctor told not to discuss front wound
Malcolm Perry

It was a bad weekend. A bad weekend and a bad aftermath.

Dr Malcolm Perry was an emergency room doctor working to save the life of the dying president. He saw an entrance wound in the president's throat. He had years of experience treating gunshot wounds. Because Kennedy had trouble breathing he cut a tracheotomy across the bullet wound in Kennedy's throat.

About an hour after the president was pronounced dead, the surgeons met with the press and talked about the wounds they treated. Dr Perry explained about the entrance wounds and how the back of the skull was missing because the shots came from the front. He talked about not having an exit wound because the bullet may have lost velocity coming through the windshield.

At the conclusion as Dr Perry was leaving, Secret Service Agent Elmer Moore grabbed his arm and pulled him aside – telling him to never say those things again. That was just the beginning. Then the Secret Service went around collecting all the copies of film from the press conference.

That evening the pressure began to get him to change his story. The doctors at Bethesda doing the autopsy were upset that he was reporting wounds from the front. They to have him called before the medical board and take his license if he didn't change his story.

Gerald Ford from the Warren Commission finally convinced Perry to change his story. Allen Dulles wanted a public retraction, which he got.
