Mexican national at Cuban consulate
Silvia Duran

John F. Kennedy’s ghost chases me, periodically it reappears when I think the nightmare is over.

Sylvia Duran was a Mexican national working at the Cuban Embassy in Mexico City. She was arrested the day after the assassination in Dallas. This was done at the request of the CIA, and at their request she was physically abused as they tried to get the story to match the official account of Lee Oswald's supposed visit to get passage to Cuba.

She was questioned about having a personal relationship with Oswald and was accused by the CIA of taking part in the assassination. Among the evidence against her was a taped conversation between her and Oswald dated September 28. The problem is that date was a Saturday and both the Cuban and Soviet embassies were closed on Saturdays. The Mexican government representatives created a statement that she was "encouraged" to sign... which she did.  She was subsequently released, but the Cubans kept an eye on her.

Duran told the House Select Committee on Assassinations that she thought the man she knew was the same one arrested in Dallas. A co-worker, Eusebio Azcue, did not agree with her identification.
