Three weeks before President Kennedy was killed in Dallas, there was another attempted assassination planned. On November 2, the president was scheduled to attend the Army-Air Force football game in Chicago. Like Lee Oswald, a former Marine named Thomas Vallee was set up to take the fall.

Vallee's background had other similarities to Oswald's. He also was a radar operator for U2 flights at Camp Otsu in Japan where the CIA found fertile ground for recruiting young men for covert operations. Both men helped train Cuban nationals for the attacks to liberate the island nation. Vallee was working with a group near Levittown on Long Island while Oswald was work with the group around New Orleans.

While it is true that Vallee owned a rifle and handgun along with several thousand rounds of ammunition, this attracted law enforcement to keep an eye on him. However, about three days before the Secret Service was notified by a hotel manager that she came across a room registered to four Cuban nationals that had several high powered rifles with scopes and a map of the motorcade route in the room.

The Secret Service picked up two of the Cubans, but soon released them. The fact that they did not follow up with investigating who they were and what they were there to do was something that bothered Abraham Bolden. Making this information public was one of the factors that lead to his arrest and imprisonment. Some information was not to be shared.

These events along with an anonymous tip from someone who said his name was “Lee” that there would be an attempt on Kennedy's life along his route to the football game attracted police attention. Interestingly, Vallee was recently hired to work on the third floor of IPP Lithograph, which happened to be along the presidential motorcade route.

Not taking chances, the local police pulled him over for a supposed traffic stop and took him into custody. Shortly after this it was announced the the President's trip to Chicago had been canceled.
